Cookie policy (EU)
This cookie policy applies to visitors from the European Economic Area and Switzerland. It explains which cookies and similar technologies Happ Knokke uses and how you can manage your preferences.
1. Introduction
On https://happknokke.be we use cookies and similar storage technologies. For convenience, this policy uses the term “cookies” for these technologies. We only place non-essential statistical storage after you have actively given your consent.
2. Optional statistics
Only with your consent do we record which valid arrival and departure dates are selected on the booking page. With these, we store the number of nights, the chosen language and the price calculated on the server, including any discount and cleaning fee. We also measure, in aggregated form, whether the calendar was viewed, a price was calculated, the request form was started or sent, and whether a chosen period was shared.
- The statistics files do not contain any name, email address, full IP address or browser fingerprint.
- The data are not used for personalised advertising. Google processes Analytics data as an external service provider under its own privacy terms.
- Our server-side statistical records are kept for no longer than twelve months; for Google Analytics, the retention period set in the Analytics property applies.
3. What are cookies?
A cookie is a small file that a website can store in or through your browser on your computer, smartphone or other device. On a later visit, the stored information can be read again. Besides traditional cookies, technologies such as localStorage and sessionStorage are subject to similar rules for storage on your device.
4. What are scripts?
A script is program code that makes the website work correctly and interactively. Scripts can run on our server or in your browser. The calendar, price calculation, cookie choice and interactive features of Happ Knokke use scripts.
5. What is a web beacon?
A web beacon or pixel tag is a small invisible element that can be used to measure website use. Happ Knokke currently does not use advertising pixels or web beacons to track visitors across other websites for marketing purposes.
6. Technical and functional storage
Necessary cookies and storage make sure the website works safely and correctly and that your choices can be remembered during a visit. No consent is required for this, but we do inform you about their use.
- PHP session cookie (usually PHPSESSID): necessary for session security, CSRF protection of forms, language choice during the session and technical operation. Kept for the duration of the browser session.
- happ-cookie-preferences-v2 in localStorage: remembers whether you allowed only necessary storage or statistics as well. This preference is remembered for no longer than six months and then requested again.
- happ_owner_test: used only when the owner activates the secret test mode to keep their own test traffic out of the statistics. This secure HttpOnly cookie remains active for no longer than 30 days and is not a normal visitor cookie.
7. Statistical storage after consent
If you allow statistics, the website may use sessionStorage to prevent duplicate records. Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-234HRW805P) is also loaded. Google may place statistical cookies such as _ga and _ga_* for this purpose. You can withdraw your consent at any time through Cookie preferences in the footer.
8. Marketing and tracking cookies
Happ Knokke uses Google Analytics solely for statistics and only with your consent. Ad storage, Google signals and ad personalisation are disabled. We do not use Meta Pixel or similar marketing cookies to track visitors across different websites.
9. External resources and services
Not every external website resource is a cookie, but when it loads, technical data such as your IP address may be passed on to the external provider.
- Google Fonts: typefaces are loaded from Google’s servers. More information: Google Privacy Policy.
- Google Analytics: with your consent, website use is measured by Google. More information: Google Privacy Policy.
- OpenStreetMap and Leaflet: an interactive map is loaded on the location page. Map tiles come from OpenStreetMap and Leaflet files are delivered through an external CDN. More information: OpenStreetMap Foundation Privacy Policy.
- Booking.com, Airbnb and Instagram: these are external links. Their own privacy and cookie policies apply as soon as you click through to these platforms.
10. Consent
On your first visit, we show a neutral cookie pop-up. You can choose necessary storage only or allow the optional statistics as well. Non-essential statistical storage is only activated after you have actively given your consent. Your choice is in principle remembered for no longer than six months.
11. Enabling, disabling and deleting cookies
You can also view, block or delete cookies and local website data through your browser settings. If you block necessary cookies completely, features such as forms or secure sessions may not work as well. If you delete local preferences, the website may ask for your cookie choice again on your next visit.
12. Your rights and contact
Where the use of cookies or statistics involves the processing of personal data, the rights described in our Privacy apply. For questions or requests, you can contact us at info@happknokke.be. You can also lodge a complaint with the Belgian Data Protection Authority (GBA).
Your cookie preferences
You can reopen your choice at any time. Necessary storage remains active because it is needed for the security and basic operation of the website.
